Keith Hudson

Keith Hutson has been playing organ most of his life. And while as a young boy, he enjoyed jazz organ styles, on Sunday mornings he was always sitting on the bench with Mrs. Weathers, the organist of the church where he was raised. He enjoyed watching her every Sunday during the postlude. “If only I could do that” he said. She continually encouraged him and ultimately convinced his parents that he had talent.

One day in 1967, he came home from school, surprised to see a new spinet organ in the living room.

At the age of 11 Keith began studying organ and by age 13 was playing in church (as long as they sang in a key he could play!). Eventually he advanced to play in most other keys with ease. When Mrs. Weather’s retired, Keith became the new organist!

At age 15 he even became the stadium organist of the Jacksonville Suns, the AA team for the Kansas City Royals. That experience was tremendous for him as he met numerous major league ball players as well as many on the team who moved up to the major leagues.

During his mid-teens Keith became interested in working during the summers at one of the local piano and organ dealerships. He worked in delivery and eventually moved into sales. Upon graduation from Florida Junior College he began working full-time in piano and organ retail sales. In 1984 he became an area representative for Rodgers Organs in North Florida. In the following years he became the assistant organist at Murray Hill Baptist Church, Jacksonville and has served as a substitute organist in various congregations throughout the Jacksonville area.
